    IT'S A CREATIVE PARADISE!

Artist, Pamela Manson, who lives in Carrick, shares her Why Donegal? story....

As an artist, Donegal calls one to respond to the magnetism of this beautiful county. I have travelled the world and seen some delightful places but Donegal's jewel coloured bog lands, lavender mountains, still lakes and majestic headlands with swirling Atlantic surf drives me to respond in paint. You can't live in Donegal and not participate in the magical ethos of the place. It is a creative paradise whether it be music, literature, crafts or the visual arts. Painters have been drawn to Donegal's wild beauty for years Humbert Craig. Paul Henry, Frank McKelvey to name but a few. As a painter it can challenge you, enchant you and literally take your breath away. I trained in Fine Art and taught Art and Design all my working life. Having retired I am fortunate now to have the opportunity to paint full time in a place I love. I have also been struck by the way Donegal people have managed to retain that sense of community which appears to be disappearing in many other places. In my experience they also have an innate Irish regard for their culture and heritage and a respect for the efforts of the artist. That too can be rare in a world seduced by so many superficial influences. I want my work to reflect the Donegal I experience and I also want to pay tribute, through my paintings, to the people who have welcomed me there with warmth and generosity. THE PROCESS OF PAINTING IN OILS.

While one painting is drying I get on to the next one. Well there is no excuse for being lazy is there! Maghera Beach Co. Donegal from the Dunes. Under painted and ready for the next stage. I'm looking forward to painting the marram grass on this one.The marram grass grows on and binds sand making it a useful plant in the stabilisation of coastal dunes. Very important that it is protected.

Welcome to my blog

I have been painting the area of South Donegal for the past 6 years. It is a place that I love with a passion. I can lose myself and find myself there. I thought you would like to join me on a journey which is so far from the stress and strain of this increasingly complicated world.
